STD presents Anderson .Paak | Shanghai

After bursting into public consciousness on Dr. Dre’s Compton LP last year, Anderson .Paak has made 2016 his own. His album Malibu has been touted as a potential record of the year and earned him a spot on Dre’s Aftermath label.

.Paaks recent trajectory has been terrifyingly steep, but his musical foundations are far from shallow. He found solace from his troubled childhood, where his father was in prison, as a drummer in his local Baptist Church.

He nurtured his first project, Breezy Lovejoy, while working on a marijuana farm in Santa Barbara. Afterwards he landed a job at Sa-Ra studios, allowing him to complete his first album. However he was never allowed the luxury of promoting the creation as he immediately went on tour as a drummer. Breezy Lovejoy morphed into Anderson .Paak in 2013 with the Cover Art EP which was followed up by Venice, a 2014 LP which featured DJ Nobody & Tokimonsta.

This year .Paak took Malibu on the road, and has been effortlessly wowing crowds with his singing, rapping, positive energy and smooth dance moves. With collaborations  with the likes of Kaytranada, Snakehips & Mac Miller - that’s not to mention to Fly Lo’ material in the pipeline - his global appeal is destined to rise.
