On Nov 26th at Qian Shui Wan, STD is proud to present our most anticipated booking to date: visionary avant-electronic artist and producer Flying Lotus’ live audiovisual extravaganza “Layer 3.” With the help of visual artists Strangeloop and Timeboy, the critically acclaimed Layer 3 show features the trio transporting FlyLo into outer dimensions using a two-screen setup and interactive front and rear projections, akin to “watching a 3D live visual show, without the glasses on,” (Interview Magazine).
This will be the performance debut of both Flying Lotus and Layer 3 in China, and one we are sure will be one of the biggest shows Shanghai has seen.
For more than a decade Flying Lotus has been cultivating a unique strain of jazzy, futuristic hip-hop, creating some truly culture-shifting art as a producer, rapper, visual artist, and live performer. He’s unleashed 5 LPs, a number of EPs, 1 mixtape (as rapping alter-ego, Captain Murphy), and countless collabs/remixes, all the while touring with one of the most visually thrilling live shows around.
Through his later albums, Cosmogramma, Until the Quiet Comes, and You’re Dead!, Flylo’s music continued to increase in complexity and substance, garnering attention for its intelligent and soulful manipulation of time signatures, texture, and tricky rhythms. It’s some of the most emotionally and intellectually provocative music you can find, and it’s no wonder so many big names have sought him out for collaboration, including Thom Yorke, Eyrkah Badu, Herbie Hancock, Burial, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Thundercat, Earl Sweatshirt and many more.

空间一分为二，二分为六，万花筒里扭曲的线条，浮游在你的指尖、头顶、舌根；视线突然模糊，晦涩的墨蓝承接魅惑的紫、妖艳的桃红，随着汇聚成强亮白光，照亮陶醉的脸，黏在一起颤抖着的睫毛、鲜红的上扬的唇、失焦的瞳孔…… 我们说的是Flying Lotus，以及他的音乐，就要在11月26日站在QSW的演出台上了！
原名Steven Ellison， Flying Lotus出生在洛杉矶音乐世家。他的祖父母分别是传奇爵士音乐人John Coltrane和Alice Coltrane。他的父亲是写出Diana Ross鼎鼎大名《Love Hangover！》的Marilyn McLeod。大音乐家后代的压力与扎根骨髓的音乐底蕴将Flying Lotus引入凡人难以触及的奇妙世界。
那是一个60年代身体紧贴，暧昧摇动的蓝调世界，空间中散落祖父母与Miles Davis的爵士片段；那是一个电子杂音此起彼伏的世界，黑色装置伪装成人类世界的机器，传递宇宙信号；那是一个幻觉彼伏的世界，过去与未来、死亡与存在交织在现在的篇章。
所以当Flying Lotus说出“是时候搅乱电子音乐这锅粥了”，最好事的乐评家也只能乖乖点头。他的音乐打破电音世界胡乱添加特效的浮躁怪相，巧妙将Soul、Jazz、Hip-Hop承接在电子合成器的特效中。
Flying Lotus去年发布的专辑《You‘re Dead》承载对死亡的探索：你将走进深不见底的迷幻空间，四周的空气凝聚成肉眼可见的暗物质，就像早期迪斯科懒散起伏的“劣质”3D特效；亡灵在下一秒音符碰撞中睁眼，似可触摸的轮廓随着你的身体舞蹈；震动与杂音消失，剩下单一乐器沉重的回声，像纸张上扩散的墨迹；当呼吸即将抽干的瞬间，明快的旋律将你拉出深渊，一种重生的快感升上头顶。
Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg ，Herbie Hancock等响亮的名字出现在这张专辑的feat名单（老实说，Flying Lotus本身的名字已经够炸）。《卫报》与《Billboard》评价《You‘re Dead》为2014年十佳专辑，更别提各家媒体铺天盖地的报道。
